THE DEVELOPMENT

Cuan na Rí is a prestigious new Tourism Project located on a 175 acre site in Sheep-Haven Bay, Co Donegal. There is direct private access to the Inner Beach and the exceptionally sheltered Bay that extends from Lackagh Bridge on the Creeslough/Carrigart Road to the Ards Peninsula in Sheep-Haven Bay. This Bay provides an excellent opportunity for water sports including sailing, canoeing, surfing, kayaking, catamaran sailing, and many similar water-sports activities. During low tide the vast expanse of sandy beach is ideal for the use of kite-buggies, power kites and land-boards.

Stage 2 of the Project will include Sea-front luxury thirty-two-bedroom Hotel & Leisure Complex, large indoor Swimming Pool, Sea-front Promenade and viewing platform, Tennis Courts and multi universal games areas, in-door Activity Centre, additional Children's Playground facilities and a network of informal walks and nature trails throughout the Site.

Neighbouring facilities:
  • The villages of Rosapenna, Downings and Carrigart are located just 10-15 minutes away by car in this predominantly tourist area with breathtaking scenery, several attractive golf links courses, equestrian, angling and sub aqua facilities;
  • The village of Rosapenna hosts to the magnificent Rosapenna 36-hole Golf Links Course and the very select and recently extended Rosapenna Hotel. There is also an excellent golf driving range;
  • The village of Downings has two hotels, shops, boat launching and mooring facilities, an attractive sheltered beach and water sports facility and is immediately adjacent to the well known historic Atlantic Drive. The village of Carrigart is located about five kilometres from the Site and has a very select boutique style Hotel, two supermarkets, Post Office, a café, pubs and a restaurant. Carrigart is also a centre for pony trekking, and has its own soccer pitch together with diving and fishing facilities;
  • The Rosapenna thirty-six-hole Golf Links and Hotel is located a short distance along the beach from the Site and just three kilometres by road. The new Bridge spanning Mulroy Bay will shorten the drive to the Portsalon 18-hole Links Course to just 20 minutes and the well known 36-hole Ballyliffin Links Course is located some thirty kilometres further north of Portsalon;
  • The renowned Glenveagh National Park is only a short journey by car from the Site. It comprises over 16,500 hectares of land and is the habitat of many rare and interesting plants and animals and is famous for its fine herd of red deer. The Park's Visitors Centre provides many guided walks and tours of Glenveagh Castle and the famous walled gardens;
  • Mount Errigal and the Poison Glen in the nearby Derryveagh Mountain range (approximately 25 kilometres from the Site) are two of the more popular and scenic areas for hill-walking and mountaineering;
  • Doe Castle (once home of the O'Donnell Chieftains), Gartan (the birthplace of St Colmcille) and the religious site of Doon well are all within a short drive from the Site. Gartan is also home to the popular Gartan Outdoor Education Centre. It is set on an 87 acres estate and offers a variety of supervised excursions and courses including mountain climbing, rock climbing, hill-walking surfing, sea kayaking and white-water kayaking;
  • The nearby Dunlewey Centre (25km from the Site) located at the base of Mount Errigal offers a variety of activities including go-karting, lake cruising, pony and trap excursions and exhibitions of some of the old traditions such as tweed weaving.
